Microneedling FAQs
-
Microneedling, also known as “Collagen Induction Therapy,” is a minimally invasive technique that creates microscopic channels in the top layer of the skin to trigger the healing process. This stimulates the production of collagen, elastin and cell regeneration to repair and transform the skin naturally.
-
Microneedling improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scars, sagging, discolorations, and other blemishes. Most patients notice softening and/or plumping of the skin, more even skin tone and color. It also aids in hair restoration.
-
A microneedling treatment will last about 80-85 minutes. It includes a personalized, full-body acupuncture treatment to support overall health and wellness.
Upon arrival, your practitioner will cleanse your face and apply a topical anesthetic for about 15 -20 minutes. After removing the anesthetic, high molecular weight hyaluronic acid plus Collagen Boosting Serum will be put on skin and microneedling will take place with an FDA manufacturer approved micropen with a sterile, disposable tip for 20-30 minutes. Then a cooling cucumber mask is applied, followed by 15-20 minutes of LED light therapy to increase collagen production, decrease post-treatment redness and stimulate rapid recovery. To conclude your treatment Phyto Stem Cell Serum and will be applied.
For your first treatment you will be given a sample of Collagen Boosting Serum for aftercare and a complimentary starter kit of organic skincare products from TOMA - a value of $98.
Day 1: Most patients find their skin feels mildly sunburnt and looks slightly puffy and flushed. There may be purple-red patches. Skin will feel tight, dry and possibly itchy, very similar to a sunburn. Hyaluronic acid serum is the best moisturizer at this stage.
Day 2-3: Some slight redness may still be present on lighter skin tones. It is now possible to return to your normal skin care routine (omitting alcohol based toners, AHAs, BHAs and mechanical exfoliants). Most people feel ready to return to work, with make-up.
Day 4-6: At this stage any redness will most likely have subsided. Flaking of skin (due to rapid cell turnover and skin cell regeneration) may be present. Do not exfoliate and instead moisturize with lotions and alcohol free hydrating mists.
Day 7: For most patients skin has visually returned to normal.
Day 14-28: Around two weeks post treatment, collagenase production will peak, this is often the time people will begin to notice a “glow” due to a softening and smoothing of skin. Skin appearance can continue to improve as collagen and elastin production increases and continue to be rewoven over the next 2 weeks to 3-6 months.

The 3 most important post treatment recommendations are:
~No Sun exposure. This is especially important for anyone with hyper-pigmentation as the skin is much more sensitive post treatment. Wear a big hat, use an umbrella on walks, and wear sunscreen daily (even with foggy grey days and reapply 1-2 x needed)
~Clean everything. Clean mask, clean pillowcase, clean towel, clean hands
~No exercise (sweating) or makeup for 24 -48 hours. Do not use any Retin A products for 10-14 days post treatment. If returning for a followup microneedling session 28-30 days, Retin A will need to be stopped 10 days prior to treatment.
~Gentle, organic skincare products, like the TOMA starter kit for the first few days (minus the exfoliating cleanser for 2 weeks), since the skin is very absorbent post treatment.
-
Microneedling offers a natural, healthy, anti-aging treatment with lasting results. Results can be seen and felt even after your first treatment, and it takes about 4-6 monthly treatments for optimal results.
For patient with deeper wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks or scars, usually 6 treatments or more are needed to achieve desired results.
Recommended maintenance is quarterly or 1-2 times a year for ongoing, anti-aging skincare.
Nanoneedling, AcuGlow/Cosmetic acupuncture can be done weekly in between monthly microneedling treatments for maximum results.
Home self-care recommendations of facial gua sha and/or cupping will also enhance results and help with maintenance.

FAQ’s for Facial Therapy
-
Treatment frequency depends on your skincare goals. Once a month is a nice treat for self-care, but for more noticeable results we recommended starting with a series of 10-12 weekly treatments. This can be followed by monthly maintenance treatments. A short home care facial gua sha/cupping ritual a few times a week is recommended for maintenance. Regular weekly treatments are a good way to start care since it takes time for the collagen and elastin to build. Usually after 4-5 cosmetic acupuncture treatments the skin begins to look and feel firmer.
-
Yes! This series can be combined with monthly Microneedling for the most effective, natural results. The week after Microneedling, only Nanoneedling or AcuGlow is recmmended as the skin is healing from the treatment. The following two weeks can include any of the facial treatments, but including Cosmetic Acupuncture is recommended. After 4 weeks it is time for your next Microneedling treatment.
-
Cosmetic acupuncture can often work on deeper wrinkles and has a lifting action for the whole face and jaw. Microneedling works on the skin and superficial layers as well as fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, texture, and overall ‘plumping’ of the skin.
